Stabilizer Fact Sheet
Proper Stabilization
is the Foundation
Quality Embroidery
One of the most important keys to creating
professional-looking, top-quality embroidery is choosing the right stabilizer.
This ensures that the hooped piece has uniform, even tension, which is critical
to getting good results.
Choosing the ideal stabilizer for the job also saves you money because you only
need one layer. Get away from building multilayer stabilizer sandwiches that
only add to the bulk of the embroidered area. To consistently make your
embroidery look the best it can be, choose the right stabilizer.
The following guide will help you
choose the best type of backing for any embroidery application

Peel and Stick- A wonderful sticky paper that
works well as a tear away. Use it when you can not hoop the item
because it is to small or it is bulky for the hoop. Use this stabilizer to
Multi-hoop with the XL6000. Hoop the stabilizer with the smooth release
paper side up and score the paper. Remove the release paper and stick your
garment or project to the sticky paper. We sell it in 2 sizes depending on
your hoop size.

Hyrostick Stabilizer
Specifically designed for hard-to-hoop items, Wet ‘N’ Set is an
adhesive-backed stabilizer that allows you to secure socks, neck ties, bags, and
karate belts so they can be easily and professionally embroidered. This unique
stabilizer features a moisture-activated adhesive on the back that will hold any
item in place within the hoop. It’s simple to use and only requires
lightly applying moisture with a damp sponge, rag, foam paint brush, or stamp
roller. Make sure the adhesive side is up. Do not over wet it.! Lay the blank
item on top of the adhesive and smooth out any wrinkles. Then embroider and
trim. If you need to reposition, or you find the adhesive too aggressive -
simply go right to the glue line – where the adhesive touches the fabric -
remoisten it lightly! This will reactivate the adhesive and it will peel off
easily.

Fuse
and Tear This is an all purpose stabilizer and we use it for
most wovens that need a little more body when embroidery is done. The
stabilizer is an iron on and when you are done just tear the excess
backing away. Great from quilt blocks and continuous borders. |

No Show Fusible Nylon Mesh
One of the most difficult problems with traditional stabilizers is
having the ugly square show through light-colored fabrics. This problem is
solved with No Show Nylon Mesh, a 1.5-ounce cutaway mesh stabilizer, which is
made of soft, sheer, translucent embossed nylon. This versatile mesh does not
require multiple layers, which adds bulk. It is invisible to the eye when viewed
from the front.
When softness is critical, as it is with fabrics such as lightweight knits and
wovens, you will find No Show Nylon Mesh to be very comfortable to the wearer.
It retains its soft hand, even after embroidering and laundering with
sheer fabrics as well. This version of No Show Nylon Mesh allows the user to avoid
adhesive sprays and eliminates the need for basting. It has an adhesive backing
that is activated by a low-temp (260 degree) iron, for a strong, secure hold. It
not only provides stability for embroidery, it also is a great way to finish off
an embroidered piece so the backing will not scratch against the skin.

Wash away
Water Soluble Topping When used as a topping on knits, terry cloth, fleece and
other textured high pile fabrics - this creates a smooth embroidery surface.
Different from other wash away products in that it is a woven surface that will
not stretch or tear as stitches are applied. Stitches won’t sink into the
fabric, giving a crisp definition and detail to your work. Rinses away with a
light soaking. Great for lace and cutwork.

Sew
N Wash 9"X 12 yd roll of soft stable fabric
designed to dissolve in water. Use as a stabilizer or to embroider on lace
or other open weave materials. Packaged in a stay fresh tube to keep the
product clean and fresh. This wash away is great when used with decorative
sewing and anytime you need to embroider without a fabric. One layer will
do. |

EM
Grid
EM GRID™ was designed by Joni Thoman of Lockport, NY, who
co-owns Thoman Gallery Imprints in nearby Lancaster. She and her husband
are professionals in custom embroidery, silk screening, and digital heat
transfer. It was only a few years ago that she came up with the idea for
the EM GRID™. After embroidering shirts for her four daughters,
Joni's niece asked her to do sixty uniforms for her cheerleading team.
Joni decided that with this many pieces, there had to be a better way of
doing things. With EM GRID™, each piece can be easily marked in the
exact same location. |
